The 98th Academy Awards nominations were unveiled this evening by Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks in a ceremony that confirmed expected frontrunners. Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” dominated the nominations, positioning themselves as the films to beat.

Anderson’s film built upon its Golden Globes triumph, securing nominations that recognize its storytelling excellence and technical achievement. The director’s nomination marks another milestone in his illustrious career, while his film’s recognition across multiple categories demonstrates its comprehensive quality. Supporting performances from Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn also earned nominations.

“Sinners” proved equally deserving of recognition, with nominations highlighting its visual brilliance and powerful performances. Ryan Coogler’s direction, combined with outstanding work in cinematography and production design, earned the film a strong position in the Oscar race. The film’s technical achievements particularly impressed Academy members.

The nominations announcement included the expected contenders but also notable absences. Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Homebound” failed to secure any nominations despite critical acclaim, representing one of the ceremony’s most significant snubs. The oversight sparked immediate discussion about the Academy’s voting patterns and potential biases.

The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles will host the 98th Academy Awards on March 15. The ceremony will air at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, where the year’s most celebrated films and performances will compete for Oscar glory.
