Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has urged Hà Nội to accelerate its economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. In a recent meeting with the city’s leadership, Tô Lâm acknowledged the strides Hà Nội has made in terms of institutional reforms, infrastructure enhancements, and administrative efficiency. However, he also pointed out several persistent challenges, including growth rates that have not met expectations, underutilized resources, and delays in significant urban projects.
Tô Lâm emphasized the need for the city to activate dormant resources and speed up critical infrastructure projects. He stressed the importance of bolstering support for businesses and fostering sectors such as tourism and innovation. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of improving public services to better serve residents. Key areas identified for immediate attention include reducing traffic congestion, addressing pollution issues, expanding housing availability, and investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation initiatives.
The push for faster growth comes as Hà Nội has set an ambitious target of achieving an 11% growth rate in its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This goal follows the city’s impressive performance in the first half of the year, where it recorded an economic growth rate of 8.22%, surpassing the national average.
Hà Nội’s leadership is now tasked with ensuring that the city can maintain its growth trajectory while addressing the challenges outlined by Tô Lâm. By focusing on unlocking potential resources and overcoming current bottlenecks, the city aims to create a more sustainable and prosperous environment for its residents.
