In a bid to bolster ties between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to enhance collaboration between Vietnamese localities and these regions, while also evaluating the business activities of Vietnamese companies and the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community there.
During discussions with local Cambodian leaders, both parties explored avenues to expand cooperation in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the strengthening connections with Vietnamese provinces through active cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and ongoing development projects.
In Kratie province, there was notable appreciation for the advancements achieved in diplomatic and socio-economic cooperation with Vietnam. This includes significant support for infrastructure development and collaborative efforts to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who lost their lives during wartime in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the impactful role of Vietnamese businesses in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia, affirming that these initiatives have bolstered local economic growth and reinforced bilateral relations. Meanwhile, in Stung Treng, local officials highlighted the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese enterprises to explore these opportunities.
The ambassador also engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing legal and livelihood concerns while promoting adherence to local laws and advocating for education and sustainable development. Currently, Vietnam boasts over 200 investment projects in Cambodia, with a total registered capital nearing $3 billion, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors.
