In a bid to enhance cooperation, Việt Nam and Australia’s Australian Capital Territory (ACT) have committed to bolstering ties between Hà Nội, Ho Chi Minh City, and Canberra. This decision follows a meeting between Vietnamese Ambassador Phạm Hùng Tâm and ACT’s Chief Minister Andrew Barr. Ambassador Tâm expressed optimism regarding Barr’s upcoming visit to both Vietnamese cities, anticipating it would unlock new avenues for collaboration.

Ambassador Tâm emphasized the immense potential for partnerships in several key areas, including renewable energy, innovation, education, tourism, and smart urban development. He also introduced the idea of a friendship and cooperation agreement between Hà Nội and the ACT, aiming to foster long-term collaboration across these multiple sectors.

Making his first journey to Việt Nam, Chief Minister Barr highlighted the nation’s role as a priority economic partner within the ACT’s international engagement strategy. He expressed enthusiasm for the suggested sister-city relationship with Hà Nội and underscored the prospects for joint efforts in green transition, electric transport, and renewable energy projects. These initiatives are designed to support the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Additionally, Barr conveyed his readiness to engage in public diplomacy activities during forthcoming visits by senior Vietnamese officials to Australia. This commitment reflects a mutual interest in deepening the collaboration between the two regions, focusing on sustainable development and economic growth.
