President To Lam of Vietnam set foot in Singapore on May 28, embarking on a four-day state visit designed to bolster the bilateral cooperation between the two nations. This visit comes as part of efforts to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that the countries forged back in 2025.
During his visit, President Lam is scheduled to engage in talks with key Singaporean figures, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. These discussions are anticipated to center on fortifying economic connections, encouraging investments, fostering technology cooperation, and strengthening regional collaboration.
One of the visit’s main events is President Lam’s keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue. This address is significant as it represents his first major international discourse on Vietnam’s foreign policy since he took office in April 2026.
Additionally, the two countries are making strides in their collaboration within the fields of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation through an initiative known as the Vietnam-Singapore Tech Connect Initiative. They are also advancing the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP 2.0) project, which aims to integrate smart technologies, sustainability, and green development to lure high-value investments.
This visit highlights the increasingly strategic and economic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore, with both nations eager to deepen their collaboration across various sectors.
