Patrick Achi, the President of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly, touched down in Hà Nội on August 23, embarking on a four-day official visit. This journey comes at the behest of Trần Thanh Mẫn, the Vietnamese National Assembly President. Achi’s presence in Vietnam extends from August 23 to 26, coinciding with the commemoration of half a century of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire, a milestone celebrated in October 2025.
Throughout his stay, Achi is scheduled to engage with top Vietnamese officials, including Tô Lâm, the General Secretary of the Vietnamese Party and President. Additionally, he will conduct discussions with Trần Thanh Mẫn, the National Assembly President. The agenda is set to prioritize enhancing parliamentary collaboration and bolstering economic and trade partnerships between the two nations.
Officials from Vietnam have highlighted that this visit underscores an increasing interest in expanding bilateral relationships and exchanging legislative insights. Such interactions are pivotal in strengthening the ties that have been cultivated over the decades since the establishment of formal relations half a century ago.
Notably, this trip marks the second visit by a head of Côte d’Ivoire’s legislature to Vietnam within a span of three years, reflecting a continuing commitment to fostering and deepening the cooperative efforts between these two countries. The visit is seen as a significant step in building on the historical connection and exploring new avenues for mutual benefit.
