The Vietnamese National Assembly is gearing up for its 16th session, set to run from August 3 to August 24 in the capital city of Hanoi. This extraordinary session will see lawmakers engage in extensive deliberations over a broad legislative agenda, alongside discussions on various significant national projects.
During this session, the assembly will address 33 agenda items, which include the passage of 15 draft laws and consideration of four draft resolutions. Additionally, the session will feature the first readings of seven new bills and debates on seven pressing national issues. The proposed legislation will span diverse subjects such as petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense, reflecting the broad scope of the assembly’s legislative focus.
A key component of the session will be the review of major infrastructure and development projects. Among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 project, and adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway. Other significant initiatives include the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project and the establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities. These projects are pivotal to Vietnam’s ongoing development efforts and will likely spur in-depth discussions among lawmakers.
Furthermore, the assembly will explore special policy mechanisms aimed at fostering growth in sectors such as renewable energy and digital transformation. These discussions will also encompass preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027 projects, underscoring Vietnam’s commitment to advancing its position on the international stage. Through these deliberations, the assembly aims to chart a path forward that aligns with both national priorities and global trends.
