As Việt Nam and Singapore seek to fortify their political bond and enhance strategic alignment, both nations are focusing on collaboration in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường emphasized that the bilateral relationship has transcended traditional economic connections, now centering on forward-looking sectors that bolster long-term growth and integration within the ASEAN region.
The elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 is a testament to the increasing political trust and mutual strategic interests shared by the two countries. Singapore stands as one of Việt Nam’s key economic partners and is the second-largest foreign investor in the country, with a multitude of active projects spanning manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A prominent example of their cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is advancing towards more sustainable and innovative industrial models.
Both nations are intensifying their efforts in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Plans are underway to forge connections between innovation ecosystems, technology companies, and skilled talent networks within both countries. During Tô Lâm’s visit, economic collaboration will remain a focal point, alongside deeper partnerships in finance, trade, supply chains, and technological advancement.
Initiatives like “Tech Connect” aim to bolster ties among governments, academic institutions, research organizations, and private enterprises in fields such as AI, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is expected to propel the development of next-generation sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam. Tô Lâm is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials view this invitation as acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s expanding international influence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
