In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Lê Minh Hưng, engaged in discussions with Jennifer Wicks, the newly appointed US Ambassador to Vietnam. The dialogue underscored Vietnam’s dedication to enhancing its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States, emphasizing the importance of mutual cooperation in various sectors.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng highlighted the significance of the United States as a key partner to Vietnam, advocating for stronger ties in areas such as trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security. He expressed the necessity for both nations to finalize a bilateral trade agreement that is equitable and balanced, aiming to offer greater certainty for businesses operating between the two countries.
The meeting also delved into collaboration on defense, cybersecurity, and law enforcement, alongside humanitarian efforts aimed at addressing the enduring consequences of the Vietnam War. This includes initiatives focused on dioxin cleanup, the removal of unexploded ordnance, and the identification of soldiers who remain missing from the conflict.
Ambassador Wicks reiterated the United States’ commitment to broadening economic connections and supporting Vietnam’s developmental aspirations. She emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships in education, innovation, maritime security, as well as addressing regional issues. Furthermore, Wicks assured continued support for joint humanitarian programs related to the war’s legacy and expressed a desire to foster closer exchanges between the people of both nations.
