Amidst the backdrop of a 55-year diplomatic relationship, Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step forward by upgrading their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This development, announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, aims to bolster cooperation across several key sectors, including trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development.
The new partnership builds upon previous agreements, such as the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both nations have expressed a commitment to enhancing political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic collaboration, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. The partnership seeks to promote business investments, fortify supply chains, and improve market access under existing trade agreements.
In their joint efforts, Vietnam and Denmark will focus on climate action and energy efficiency, aiming to develop renewable energy projects that align with Vietnam’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, the partnership addresses maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health, reflecting a comprehensive approach to bilateral cooperation.
Both countries have reaffirmed their dedication to upholding international law, supporting multilateral cooperation, and resolving disputes peacefully. They have also underscored their backing for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
To ensure the partnership translates into tangible outcomes, Vietnam and Denmark plan to devise action plans that will implement their commitments through practical cooperation. This strategic move not only strengthens their bilateral relations but also sets a foundation for future collaborative endeavors in various global and regional contexts.
