In a move to bolster Vietnam’s contribution to international humanitarian and disaster relief efforts, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has proposed the establishment of a specialized international search and rescue force. This elite unit would be highly professional and capable of rapid deployment in response to global emergencies. The announcement was made during a ceremony that celebrated Vietnam’s successful rescue mission in Venezuela after the country was struck by twin earthquakes.
The Vietnamese rescue mission to Venezuela comprised a 124-member team from the military and public security sectors. Their efforts were lauded by the Prime Minister, who emphasized the team’s professionalism and dedication to humanitarian causes. During the operation, the team made significant contributions by recovering 57 victims and distributing 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies. Additionally, they provided medical assistance to over 130 residents and offered financial support to communities impacted by the disaster.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has urged relevant authorities to focus on enhancing the nation’s rescue capabilities. This includes investing in modern equipment, offering specialized training, and improving both coordination and international partnerships. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting the personnel who participate in these critical overseas missions.
In appreciation of their commendable efforts, Vietnam’s rescue team was honored with Venezuela’s prestigious Hero of Venezuela Medal. This accolade reflects their significant contributions to the relief operations and underscores the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis.
