In a bid to tackle regional disparities and enhance educational access in Vietnam’s remote border areas, the government is focusing on improving infrastructure and resources at newly established boarding schools. This initiative is part of a broader effort under Politburo Resolution 71-NQ/TW, which aims to address educational inequities across the country.
During a recent meeting in Hà Nội, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the need for the Ministry of Education and Training to expedite the completion of facilities at 108 multi-level boarding schools that began operations for the new academic year on September 5. The Prime Minister also set a target for the construction of 121 additional schools to be completed by August 30, 2027, underscoring the urgency of these projects.
These educational developments are crucial for communities in border communes, which are part of a larger program involving 248 boarding schools. Hưng called for an evaluation of the educational quality and effectiveness of these newly opened schools, along with ensuring that they are equipped with adequate resources, including classrooms and qualified teachers.
In addition to infrastructure concerns, Hưng addressed a nationwide shortage of textbooks, which has affected students across the country. He directed the education ministry to resolve the shortfall of approximately 776,000 textbook sets by September 25. The shortage was attributed to issues in demand forecasting, ordering, publishing, and distribution processes.
The Prime Minister urged the ministry to identify those responsible for the textbook deficit and to report their findings by October 10. To prevent future shortages, he recommended diversifying textbook production and distribution channels while strengthening quality controls to ensure that all students have access to necessary educational materials.
