In an effort to bolster collaboration on critical environmental issues, Vietnam and the World Bank have pledged enhanced cooperation on water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This commitment was reaffirmed during discussions between Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and top World Bank officials in Hanoi. Vietnamese authorities emphasized the crucial role the World Bank has played over the years in supporting the nation’s infrastructure, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainable growth. Projects funded by the World Bank have notably advanced the management of water resources, ensured food security, and aided climate adaptation throughout Vietnam.
Deputy Prime Minister Dũng underscored the strategic importance of water security for Vietnam, particularly as climate-related challenges become more pronounced in areas like the Mekong Delta. He expressed strong support for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and advocated for extending their long-term partnership in water management and climate resilience efforts.
The World Bank reiterated its dedication to supporting Vietnam, offering financial resources, technical expertise, policy guidance, and international knowledge. Officials from the bank highlighted that enhancing water security and climate adaptation would be focal points in their forthcoming partnership framework with Vietnam.
Discussions also touched upon the potential for increased collaboration in climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. Both parties stressed the urgency of accelerating projects that assist vulnerable communities and promote enduring environmental sustainability.
