Vietnam has emphasized its ongoing support for Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stressing the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as a crucial framework for fostering peace and stability in the region. At an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung underscored Myanmar’s significance within ASEAN and advocated for initiatives aimed at national reconciliation, economic revitalization, and enhanced governance.
Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted the need for ASEAN to adopt more tangible and concrete measures, including establishing regular dialogues and direct engagement with Myanmar to effectively monitor the situation and encourage substantial progress. He reiterated Vietnam’s willingness to collaborate closely with the ASEAN Chair for 2026 and other member nations in addressing Myanmar’s social issues, curbing transnational crime, and bolstering regional cooperation.
The ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their dedication to supporting a solution led by Myanmar itself, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue and the diligent implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
