Thailand is actively enhancing its global aviation connections by forming strategic alliances with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai. Concurrently, the country is investing in the modernization of its regional airport systems to boost connectivity and promote tourism growth.
In a move to cater to the increasing demand for travel from Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines inaugurated a new flight route on July 2, linking Ho Chi Minh City with Phuket. This new service, set to operate four times a week, offers an annual seating capacity of approximately 39,500. This development comes as more than 300,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand in just the first six months of the year.
Meanwhile, flydubai has expanded its offerings by commencing daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok as of July 1. The airline has announced plans to further enhance this connectivity by doubling the service to two daily flights starting September 15, thereby strengthening the aviation link between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
On another front, Thailand is planning to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This initiative is aimed at improving air traffic management, enhancing operational efficiency, and increasing accessibility to less prominent cities. The AFIS will initially be introduced at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with considerations for extending the service to additional regional airports in the future.
